ETHNOPOETICS.ORG : a collaboration to extend the valuing and study of global poetries

This is an old revision of the document!

At this time, we have identified multiple levels of potential metadata tags which vary greatly in specificity.

A master list of the tags we have discussed follows:

  • Title of container and issue (as in, Alcheringa vol 1, issue 3)
  • Title and subtitle of piece
  • Date of creation
  • Name of author (if known)
  • Name of translator (if known)
  • Page number in container
  • Modality (print, audio, multimodal)
  • Language, including dialect
  • Original language (if translated)
  • Genre
  • Geographical origin of the author at time of writing
  • Geographical location (country's current name)
  • Cultural origin of the author
  • Topics, keywords, theme

More tags exist, but these are a summation of the tags we have reached a consensus on through browsing issues of the Alcheringa separately.

We also agree that there must be a distinction between mandatory and optional tags. This is more or less self-explanatory, but an example of a mandatory tag could be the theme/keywords a work evokes (because it is always there in the text), and an optional tag might be the author's name (because some works have no such attribution).

We recognize that applying tags to every page is a time consuming task, so one our current challenges is narrowing our tags. Lack of knowledge on ethnopoetics makes this difficult, though.
