A Paradise of Poets
Two things drew us to this poem, the beauty – the aliveness – of the language
“Flowers” and “Songs” are poetry in this poem. They are not metaphors in the traditional sense of the word.
Technicians of the Sacred (XXV), “…A major point throughout this book is that these peoples (& they’re likely too diverse to be covered by a single name) are precisely “technicians” where it concerns them—specifically in their relation to the “sacred” as something they can actively create or capture…”
What is a metaphor? Does it bring us closer or separate us from a concept? In this case, the original language did not have a word for poetry so these images serve a different role than they would in English. They are not a substitution. What are they? To the original writers? To us? Can we touch the same source of meaning?
