This is an old revision of the document!

K’iche’ (Quiche) Mayan

  • The creation myth/account
  • The repetition: “Resplendent Plumed Serpent” “Maker, Modeler, Bearer” throughout the poem had a ritualistic feel like in a prayer. Could be referring to gods or ancestors or spirits.
  • “The original book” as oral tradition - sung or voiced out to the reader/interpreters
  • Think about it as a cord in a fabric knitted or stitched together. An active imaginative process with voice and text. “inscribe”, “reader”, performed as well. But not as a stage drama (that too) but in an experiential way.
  • THIS IS THE ACCOUNT: it exists even when unnoticed, “ripples” “murmurs” like whispers in the wind until stillness
  • Commentary: “existed as a picture writing” – Homer “poems were intended to be read aloud, often with musical accompaniment.”
  • How to read/experience (13) from “There is the Original Book / and ancient writing…” and become a participant as well
  • The colorful feathered serpent and the Heart of Sky must work together to come out of darkness?
  • Genders for the spirits/gods/sage?
