ETHNOPOETICS.ORG : a collaboration to extend the valuing and study of global poetries

The Contributor's Guide is a work in progress; these sections may be subject to revision in the future.

Contributor's Guide - Welcome

Hi, welcome to the contributor (editor)’s guide! As you may feel a little stressed by Ethnopoetics, we provide guides for you to get familiar with what to do and how to do it as below:

Creating an Account

If you want to contribute to the Ethnopoetics Wiki, we require that you create an account on the site. Creating an account has several benefits, as your edits will be attributed under your username, save the edit history, and so on. In order to make an account, you just need to click the create account link at the top right corner of the page. Fill in your preferred user name, password and email address - that’s it. If the username is not already taken, then it’s yours! Also, don’t forget to go check your email and activate your confirmation email, then you are officially a contributor to the Ethnopoetics wiki!

Claiming an Empty Page

The Ethnopoetics Wiki uses placeholder pages for topics from the publication Alcheringa. If you wish to claim a page to begin work on completing the entry:

  1. Search for a page that has a link but is currently empty.
  2. Click on the discussion tab and ask an administrator or moderator for permission to begin work on the page.

If accepted, you will be directed to the proper materials if required and/or asked about external resources you wish to use.

How to Research External Resources

  • Explore all research engines available on the web
  • Narrow down the topic you are looking for to make it more researchable
  • Make sure to opt for authoritative sources for well-established research process

When and How to Edit an Existing Page

Initially, when there is an error (whether typos or questionable information) in the wiki, that is the best time to ask for permission in order to make a change. Second, when there is new updated information about the topic it is recommended that the wiki page is updated (please see the coding tutorial section for information on how to add an external link).

Regarding the process of changing an existing page, the user who wishes to make a change to the wiki must log in to their account. Second, a given section in the wiki could be changed on the top right of that section. Then, the user is provided with several tools to make changes to that section including font size, font color. Furthermore, the user could insert images or embed wedges. Finally, before saving the changes, the user must hit preview before saving the changes made. If the changes made on the wiki appear according to what the user desires, then the user could conclude the process by hitting save.
